Mean vs Median Visualizer
Interact with the number line to add custom data or outliers, and watch how the mean and median respond differently.
Data Points (7):
[20, 22, 25, 26, 28, 30, 32]
MEAN (Average)26.1
MEDIAN (Middle)26.0
Mathematical Explanations:
Mean (Average): Calculated by taking the sum of all values divided by the total count. The Mean acts as a mathematical balance point; because of this, adding extreme outlier values will skew it heavily towards them.
Median: The physical middle value when data points are sorted from smallest to largest. Because it only counts positions, the Median is highly robust and barely affected by extreme outliers, representing a more accurate typical value in skewed datasets.
