Founded by the Pala Emperor Dharmapala in the late 8th Century, it attracted thousands of scholars from Tibet, China, and across Asia. The university specialized in philosophy, logic, grammar, and tantric studies. The ruins feature a massive brick monastery (Vihara) with a tall central stupa and beautiful, historic stone pillars supporting broken roofs, showing our glorious academic past.
