Bhagalpur is globally celebrated as the 'Silk City' of India, famous for its magnificent Bhagalpuri Silk! This special handloom silk is woven using natural 'Tussar' threads. Tussar silk is produced by wild silkworms called 'Antheraea mylitta' that live and feed on Arjun and Asan trees in the forest. Bhagalpuri Silk is highly prized for its unique, rich texture, lightweight feel, and natural deep-golden luster. It has been awarded a prestigious Geographical Indication (GI) tag, recognizing it as a unique heritage craft belonging proudly to Bihar.
